Day 7 Quang Nhai to Quy Nhon

March 17th, 2008
Distance travelled today: 88 km
Current Mood: ;)

We set off on Day 7 with a 2hr shuttle to the start of the days riding. It was to be another hot day but we were again well coated in sunscreen as we set off. The tanlines were by this stage getting very impressive.

The ride started on quiet backroads again, but quickly turned to dirt. We spent much of the day dodging potholes, kids, and the odd cow. We were chased by dozens of kids through every village we passed through. There were a number of steep climbs with beautiful sweeping views of the bay. Unfortunately long steep climbs lead to long steep descents, with some riders coming to grief as they picked up too much speed. Luckily, the worst injuries were minor scrapes and sprained shoulders.

We stopped for lunch at a local village, which served (you guessed it) more delicious seafood. It seemed there was an endless supply of fish, squid, and more fish being brought out to the table.

The last section of the ride was probably the most challenging, with lot’s of rough unsealed road. We were all glad to get to the finish of this section, although we further increased the amount of skin left behind in Vietnam.

The last bit was an interesting ride over a 3km long bridge. As we entered the city of Quy Nhon we had a tricky group ride amongst the busy traffic, but again, it was an amazing spectacle. There were hundreds of motorcyclists following the group as we negotiated the narrow streets.

Dinner again was another delicious seafood affair. We also found an Ice-Cream man walking past the restaurant and pretty much cleaned out his entire stock for the night!

I seem to recall Nick made it through SINZ without any crashes. Was it just because he left the tour early???
