Day 4 Lang Co to Hoi An
After
another hearty breakfast we set off on the ride to Hoi An. The ride started with a 500m climb over
about 10km. It was a pleasant change
from all the flat riding we’d been doing, but challenging nonetheless. It was a hot day and many of us were steaming
our clothes as we cranked up the mountain.
Our effort on the climb was rewarded by gorgeous views of the bay. We
had a rest break at the summit, with locals selling us much needed
refreshments. There were some
interesting old ruins at the top, but it became somewhat chilly so we were glad
to get going on the descent.
We rode down
the mountain and then proceeded just past the town of Danang for lunch. The
food was yet again plentiful, with lots of seafood and some delicious
soup. After the profuse sweating from
the hot ride, we were all craving for salt.
Most of us were liberal with our use of salt, but Corbin downs a bowl of
Soya Sauce instead (apparently that’s normal behaviour for him). Nick replaces of Sid as the rider with the
biggest appetite as he empties yet more food into his growing body!
Our well-fed unicyclists rode the final few km’s into Hoi An tired but satisfied with another days successful riding. After a nice shower we proceeded into town for yet more food, followed by some very rich dessert at a bakery. Just as well we burned so many calories today!
Quotes of the day
"‘You paid 50,000 Dong for a Mars Bar?!!?!??'....incredulous unicyclists at Nathans’ contribution to Vietnamese inflation"
"‘hello hello hello, what is your name?'....schoolkids everywhere as we went past"
